An Episode of My Life- Life of a Grade 8 Student Essay

I woke up in the center of the night after the unusual clamor originating from my sibling Jake’s room. It was his alert that made such commotion. He has a significant secondary school test today. Evidently he felt that having a fire drill sound as his caution tune would without a doubt wake him up, it did however it woke we all up. After at last having the option to rest once more, I woke up around eight o’clock. I was thirty moment later from when I for the most part wake up. It is Wednesday, June 27th. The climate was incredibly delightful and warm, a normal June climate in L.A. In the wake of eating and a pleasant cup of ice tea, I prepared for school. Today was the latest day of school so I needed to appreciate it. I put on a larger than usual sweatshirt and combined it with tore thin pants while snatching a couple of shoes. I was never permitted to wear such sort of fabrics in school, evidently my school is private and just acknowledges legitimate clothing regulation. My dad’s driver drove me to class today since I would have been late. Normally I simply stroll to class since it just takes me ten minutes. Around nine thirty, I showed up at school. I entered through the front entryway and saw the group encompassing a seventh grader that was being harassed by a domineering jerk. This really happened significantly after he showed up to our school. His name is Thomas Thomson and had been called names since the time a year ago. He was a hotshot and had a terrible disposition. The domineering jerk was Joe Kinderson. He generally menaces more youthful graders and was ousted twice in one year. The main explanation he is still here is a direct result of his father, the leader of Kinderson Company. His dad’s organization established our school and that is the reason our school’s name is Roy Kinderson Academy. Being in a tuition based school had never been what I needed. On the off chance that I hadn’t bomb grade five, I would in any case be in Rosemary state funded school that can give me in any event opportunity. That was not awful enough, since I got a D on two of my subjects for as long as two semesters, I should be sent to a live-in school in England and live with my auntie Frowny after summer break. Auntie Frowny’s real name is Juliana Frowren Williams. My sibling and I gave her the epithet â€Å"Frowny† since she scarcely grins to us. First period should be French however Ms. Lewis our homeroom instructor chose to transform it into science so she can give us a survey test on what we realized for this present year. Our French educator Madam Garcia was probably the most delightful instructor in grade eight because of the way that she scarcely gave us any schoolwork and that she generally has a major brilliant grin all over. Since today was the latest day of school, we just needed to remain in school until after lunch. We had break after first period. My two closest companions Trina and Elisa were with me along some different young ladies. They feel that going to class in England will be a fantasy however for me its certainly not. Lunch was pizza and natural product serving of mixed greens. We needed to help clear out the homeroom before lunch. Around one o’clock we were going to leave. I realized it would be the last time I ever observe my companions and instructors so I left early. I didn’t need to get passionate since I was known as a young lady who never cries. I will truly miss my school however I can in any case contact individuals from my school utilizing Facebook. I returned home a quarter to two. Washed up and sat in front of the TV until my mother returned home. She made me to go out on the town to shop with her and purchase new fabrics for tomorrow. Tomorrow is our family â€Å"Frienbely† day. It was an interesting occasion my folks pondered when I was five. They needed to commend the happening to summer break by spending time with Jake and I as companions for an entire day. We thought it was cool around then yet that was on the grounds that we were youthful. As we were headed to the shopping center, I needed to tell my mother how my day went. I enlightened her regarding the training fire drill we had today and the entire morning of cleaning. She inquired as to whether I took significant pictures with any of my instructors and companions yet I said I would at present visit them in the late spring. The evening went to be a calamity to me. I accidently headed out to an inappropriate lift and wound up chancing upon the set where they were shooting a music video. The camera found me spilling espresso onto my jeans coincidentally and communicated it on the big screen in the shopping center. The humiliating thing wasn’t this however my mother. She shopped at my preferred store and purchased precisely the same material I was wearing. She however it would be fun and would be ideal for tomorrow’s â€Å"Frienbely† day. Since my mother pulled back five of her Visas a week ago without knowing, my sibling Jake needed to approach take care of for her tabs. He chuckled so hard at the two of us and snickered significantly harder when he saw the big screen playing over my espresso spilling second. Around seven thirty toward the evening, my family went out for supper after my father came back from work. We ate at a celebrated Spanish café since my mother is half Spanish. The café wasn’t popular on account of its unprecedented taste however by its sensible cost and its fascinating game plan of tables. Father purchased materials for the â€Å"frienbely† day too. He advised his secretary to get a similar outfit that coordinated with the materials Jake purchased a week ago. I was going to giggle at Jake to settle the score with him, however I figured I would spare it for whenever he ridicules me. After we returned home not long before eleven o’clock, I discovered Jake’s new sweetheart sitting tight for him by the indirect access of our home. Jake didn’t enlighten mother and father regarding his new sweetheart since he simply said a final farewell to his ex a week ago and their relationship just went on for two days. I didn’t inform mother and father concerning Jake’s new young lady companion since they guaranteed me to get me another CD that mother restricted me from tuning in to. They would sing at the karaoke club with a lot of companions to have some good times and unwind after their two months of contemplating. I hit the hay at two AM in the first part of the day. The new computer game I purchased a week ago shielded me from dozing early. Following five moment, I dozed sufficiently with a fantasy that drove me to the uncertainness of tomorrow.

Understanding Selective Mutism

Understanding Selective Mutism Social Anxiety Disorder Related Conditions Print Understanding Selective Mutism By Arlin Cuncic Arlin Cuncic, MA, is the author of Therapy in Focus: What to Expect from CBT for Social Anxiety Disorder and 7 Weeks to Reduce Anxiety. Learn about our editorial policy Arlin Cuncic Updated on January 29, 2020 Brand X Pictures / Johner Images / Getty Images More in Social Anxiety Disorder Related Conditions Symptoms Diagnosis Treatment and Therapy Coping Work and School Selective mutism is a disorder usually first diagnosed in childhood. The first described cases date back to 1877 when German physician Adolph Kussmaul labeled children who did not speak as having aphasia voluntaria. Children who are selectively mute fail to speak in specific social situations, such as at school or in the community. It is estimated that less than 1% of children suffer from selective mutism. Diagnosis   Although selective mutism is believed to have its roots in anxiety, it was not classified as an anxiety disorder until the most recent version of the  Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V)  was published in 2013. The use of the term selective was adopted in 1994, prior to which the disorder was known as elective mutism. The change was made to emphasize that children with selective mutism are not choosing to be silent, but rather are too afraid to speak. The primary criteria for a diagnosis of selective mutism is a consistent failure to speak in specific social situations in which there is an expectation of speaking (e.g., school), despite speaking in other situations. Symptoms of selective mutism must have been present for at least one month, and not simply the first month of school. Your child must understand spoken language and have the ability to speak normally in some situations (usually at home with familiar people). Finally, a lack of speech must interfere with your childs educational or social functioning. Children who stop talking temporarily after immigrating to a foreign country or experiencing a traumatic event would not be diagnosed with selective mutism. Symptoms   If you believe that your child may be suffering from selective mutism, look for the following symptoms: Shyness, fear of people and reluctance to speak between two and four years of ageInability to speak in school and other specific social situationsUse of nonverbal communication to express needs (nods head, points)Expression of a desire to speak that is held back by anxiousness, fear or embarrassmentSpeaking easily in certain situations (e.g., at home or with familiar people), but not othersFidgeting, eye contact avoidance, lack of movement or lack of expression when in feared situations Causes It was once believed that selective mutism was the result of childhood abuse, trauma, or upheaval. Research now suggests that the disorder is related to extreme social anxiety and that genetic predisposition is likely. Like all mental disorders, it is unlikely that there is one single cause. Treatment Selective mutism is most receptive to treatment when it is caught early. If your child has been silent at school for two months or longer, it is important that treatment begin promptly. When the disorder of selective mutism is not caught early, there is a risk that your child will become used to not speakingâ€"that being silent will become a way of life and more difficult to change. A common treatment for selective mutism is the use of behavior management programs. Such programs involve techniques like desensitization and positive reinforcement, applied both at home and at school under the supervision of a psychologist. Teachers can sometimes become frustrated or angry with children who dont speak. You can help by making sure that your childs teacher knows that the behavior is not intentional.  Together you need to encourage your child and offer praise and rewards for positive behaviors.   Whereas rewarding positive steps toward speaking is a good thing, punishing silence is not. If your child is afraid to speak, she will not overcome this fear through pressure or punishment. Medication may also be appropriate, particularly in severe or chronic cases, or when other methods have not resulted in improvement. The choice of whether to use medication should be made in consultation with a doctor who has experience prescribing anxiety medication for children. In general, there is a good prognosis for this disorder. Unless there is another problem contributing to the selective mutism, children generally function well in other areas and do not need to be placed in special education classes. Although it is possible for this disorder to continue through to adulthood, it is rare and more likely that social anxiety disorder would develop.

In all great stories, a unique sense of individuality is typically the main element of a compelling protagonist. This individuality usually sets up key conflicts in the story that drive the plot. Othello and Peekay are both characters that posses this unique individuality, and in each of their stories, it causes them to overcome or be destroyed by each of these conflicts. The unique individuality demonstrated by Othello and Peekay cause them to either rise above or fall to conflicts such as protagonist vs. erson, protagonist vs. society and protagonist vs. self. As much as the readers may enjoy the protagonists’ unique characteristics, there are often characters in the novel who despise them. These characters (usually known as the antagonists) are often the initiators of protagonist vs. person conflicts. In the case of Othello, his unique physical characteristics were the fuel to the fire that was Iago’s despise for him. Iago is the charcter in the story of Othe llo, which is the true cause of the eventual demise of Othello. Although Othello’s unique physical traits (the colour of his skin, physical features) were not the initial cause of Iago’s hatred for Othello, they were mentioned by Iago every time he schemed against Othello. It seems throughout the novel that Iago uses these insults to remind himself of his disgust for Othello. He often used metaphors that mocked Othello’s race. For example, â€Å"Even now, now, very now, an old black ram is tupping your white ewe. † (I. i. 97-98). In this quote Iago uses the imagery of a black ram to describe Othello. In this way, Othello’s unique physical characteristics fuel the hatred of Iago, which in turn results in the demise of Othello. Therefore, this aspect of Othello’s unique individuality causes his fall, in the form of his demise. Similarly to Othello, the character Peekay’s unique racial characteristics are the main cause of his prot agonist vs. person conflicts. Due to the fact that Peekay was a child of English decent, he was a victim of racism at the hands of the Boer children who occupied his boarding school. Peekay was mercilessly harassed by the Boer children, both physically and psychologically. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Power of One" essay for you Create order

Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by removal of the fetus from the mother’s womb. It is estimated that there are 30-40 million abortions conducted a year (Trupin). Abortions have been legal in the United States since the Supreme Court’s decision in the 1973 Roe v. Assessing A Student Free Essays

In education the main approach of an assessment is to determine what students have learned in a course or program. By determining what and how students learn teachers can oversee student progress, clarify student’s strengths and weaknesses, and keep a journal of these results to better help students. Second grade students are assessed to simply find the areas of struggles in their learning. We will write a custom essay sample on Assessing A Student or any similar topic only for you Order Now I created and conducted an assessment on a second grader; the results were to my opinion normal. Creating an assessment based on the common core math standards for a second grader proved very informative. Many second graders are tested on the knowledge that they already know or have learned from their previous grade, I found that in doing this assessment most of the information was familiar to the student, and for the most part much of it was understood. As the assessment continued the student began to show little signs of weakness towards counting money, but he showed strengths of being able to recognize each coin and the value of those coins. Conducting assessments helps teachers to remove the guesswork out of how their students learn and allows them to begin to put together methods and strategies to be able to reach these students and help them stay on top of their learning. In creating the assessment chart I was able to identify the common core standards and compare what level the student should be on and what level that actual student is on in their learning abilities. The standards help with keeping the teacher and the student on a focused path. Being able to chart the results from the assessment gave me the idea of creating a journal for students; this will help with learning progress and minor set backs in the individual student. Setting goals in learning is most important for each student and the teacher, the journal will help both teacher and students stay on top of these goals. I learned that it is very helpful, and important for teachers to conduct review sessions, these sessions will help struggling students build strength in their weak areas of learning. In conclusion, learning assessments are necessary for both student and teacher, and good idea must first start with a plan and I believe this is what a learning assessment will accomplish. Students need help in being guided in the right direction towards being successful in their learning career, teachers need plans to help be able to guide students in positive learning directions, I believe that the solution to both of these directional paths are conducting assessments and gathering the results of these assessments. Understanding and comprehending taught lessons are key elements to students, and the more a teacher knows about how their students learn the better prepared they can be to teach their students. Pornography Essays (4498 words) - Pornography, Sex-positive Feminism

Pornography Pornography -- Sex or Subordination? In the late Seventies, America became shocked and outraged by the rape, mutilation, and murder of over a dozen young, beautiful girls. The man who committed these murders, Ted Bundy, was later apprehended and executed. During his detention in various penitentiaries, he was mentally probed and prodded by psychologist and psychoanalysts hoping to discover the root of his violent actions and sexual frustrations. Many theories arose in attempts to explain the motivational factors behind his murderous escapades. However, the strongest and most feasible of these theories came not from the psychologists, but from the man himself, as a teenager, my buddies and I would all sneak around and watch porn. As I grew older, I became more and more interested and involved in it, [pornography] became an obsession. I got so involved in it, I wanted to incorporate [porn] into my life, but I couldn't behave like that and maintain the success I had worked so hard for. I generated an alter ego to fulfill my fantasies under-cover. Pornography was a means of unlocking the evil I had buried inside myself (Leidholdt 47). Is it possible that pornography is acting as the key to unlocking the evil in more unstable minds? According to Edward Donnerstein, a leading researcher in the pornography field, the relationship between sexually violent images in the media and subsequent aggression and . . . callous attitudes towards women is much stronger statistically than the relationship between smoking and cancer (Itzin 22). After considering the increase in rape and molestation, sexual harassment, and other sex crimes over the last few decades, and also the corresponding increase of business in the pornography industry, the link between violence and pornography needs considerable study and examination. Once the evidence you will encounter in this paper is evaluated and quantified, it will be hard not come away with the realization that habitual use of pornographic material promotes unrealistic and unattainable desires in men that can lead to violent behavior toward women. In order to properly discuss pornography, and be able to link it to violence, we must first come to a basic and agreeable understanding of what the word pornography means. The term pornography originates from two Greek words, porne, which means harlot, and graphein, which means to write (Webster's 286). My belief is that the combination of the two words was originally meant to describe, in literature, the sexual escapades of women deemed to be whores. As time has passed, this definition of pornography has grown to include any and all obscene literature and pictures. At the present date, the term is basically a blanket which covers all types of material such as explicit literature, photography, films, and video tapes with varying degrees of sexual content. For Catherine Itzin's research purposes pornography has been divided into three categories: The sexually explicit and violent; the sexually explicit and nonviolent, but subordinating and dehumanizing; and the sexually explicit, nonviolent, and no subordinating that is based upon mutuality. The sexually explicit and violent is graphic, showing penetration and ejaculation. Also, it shows the violent act toward a woman. The second example shows the graphic sexual act and climax, but not a violent act. This example shows the woman being dressed is a costume or being 'talked down' to in order to reduce her to something not human; such as a body part or just something to have sex with, a body opening or an orifice. Not only does 'erotica' show the entire graphic sexual act, it also depicts an attraction between two people. Her research consistently shows that harmful effects are associated with the first two, but that the third 'erotica', is harmless (22). These three categories basically exist as tools of discerning content. Although sometimes they overlap without a true distinction, as in when the film is graphic in the sexual act and also in violence, but shows the act as being a mutual activity between the people participating. In my view, to further divide pornography, it is possible to break it down into even simpler categories: soft and hard-core pornography. Hard core pornography is a combination of the sexually explicit and violent and the sexually explicit and nonviolent, but subordinating and dehumanizing categories,
